School counselors gathered at the UC Davis Conference Center on Saturday March 17 for the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) Counselors for Computing (C4C) Workshop on how to advise K-12 students interested in careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The UC Davis Center for Integrated Computing and STEM Education (C-STEM) invited partner teachers and students to talk about their experiences, especially in encouraging female students and other underrepresented groups into science and engineering, and provide demonstrations of how UC Davis students are using STEM. The workshop was jointly organized by NCWIT, the California Association of School Counselors (CASC), and the UC Davis C-STEM Center.

C-STEM Center Receives NCWIT Affiliate Seed Fund Grant
The C-STEM Center has been awarded a grant from the National Center For Women and IT (NCWIT) for the Northern California Aspirations Affiliate Award to be presented at the 2012 C-STEM Day. The grant is funded through a generous contribution from the Motorola Solutions Foundation.

The California STEM Summit occurred on October 10 and 11, 2011 as a gathering of education administrators and business partners focused on addressing critical issues of STEM education in California. The Student Showcase allowed students to display thier work in STEM projects to the administrators. The C-STEM Center and its partner schools hosted two tables. Once was focused on closing the achievement gap in math and science eduation and the other on robotics and afterschool programs.

The C-STEM Outreach Club, a UC Davis student club, has been awarded the Return Path Student Seed Fund grant awarded by the National Center For Women in IT (NCWIT) to help promote women in computing and IT. The funding is to be used to help promote the club on campus and send student members to the Expand Your Horizons event on October 8, 2011 which is designed specifically to engage 6-8th grade girls in computing fields.
