2016 C-STEM Day Synopsis

The 6th C-STEM Day was held on May 21, 2016, concurrently on the UC Davis campus and in Irvine at University High School. C-STEM Program Manager Heidi Espindola served as coordinator for the Davis site, while Merry Kim served as coordinator for the Irvine site.

In attendance and welcoming the attendees in Davis were Dr. Jennifer Curtis, Dean of the College of Engineering of UC Davis and C-STEM Center Director Harry Cheng. In Irvine, Irvine Valley College Dean of Instruction Corine Doughty joined in the effort and success of the event. Under the leadership of Hewlett Packard Enterprise engineer Rex Schrader, Chief Judge, more than 50 volunteers, including many from Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Intel Corp, served as judges for the RoboPlay Challenge Competition in Davis. In Irvine, Chris Harrington served as head judge.

This year, we had a total of 100 student teams participate in the RoboPlay Challenge Competition, with 73 teams at Davis and 27 teams at Irvine. In addition, 35 teams submitted videos for the RoboPlay Video Competition.

At the awards ceremony, C-STEM Center Director Harry Cheng presented the award certificates to the recipients of C-STEM Award of Achievement, C-STEM GIRL Leadership Award, C-STEM Award of Excellence, Beckman Coulter C-STEM Scholarship, as well as trophies and medals to the regional and statewide RoboPlay Video Competition winners and RoboPlay  Challenge Competition winners.

Congratulations go out to all participants in the 2016 RoboPlay Competition.
