Author Guidelines
Paper Templates: ASME provides author templates in Word, Framemaker and LaTeX for use in preparing conference papers for publication on CD-ROM. For more information on templates, please visit the ASME Author Templates page.
Technical Publication: A technical publication is a full-length, peer-reviewed paper that is accepted for presentation at a technical session and publication in the conference proceedings. Requires an abstract upon submittal for consideration; if accepted, a draft and final paper are required. Furthermore, the paper must be presented at the conference.
Length: No more than 10 pages (fully formatted, two-column, 8.5 x 11 in. pages)
Student Competition Paper: For a paper to be considered for a student competition, the author must explicitly declare it by selecting "Student Competition Paper" on the ASME submission tool at the time of submission.
To be eligible for the student paper competition, the student must appear as the first and presenting author of the paper. The student must also be a registered student at the time of paper submission, and cannot enter more than one single paper into this competition. The students may however appear as authors and/or coauthors on multiple non-student competition papers.
Draft Paper Preparation: If your abstract is accepted, you'll need to submit a draft for technical review. Please note the following.
- Your draft paper must be prepared in accordance with the ASME Author Guidelines.
- Your draft paper must include the word "DRAFT" at the top of the first page.
- Your draft must include your conference paper number and the proper header. This number was assigned when you submitted your abstract. See here for a PDF sample.
- Your draft must be submitted as a PDF file.
Final Paper Preparation: Once your draft has been accepted for publication, you will be asked to submit a final work for inclusion in the conference proceedings. Please note the following.
- Your final paper must be prepared in accordance with the ASME Author Guidelines.
- Your final paper must include your conference paper number and the proper header. This number was assigned when you submitted your abstract. See here for a PDF sample.
- The file name of your final paper must include your paper number, e.g. mesa2010-12345.pdf
- Your final work must be submitted as a PDF file.
Paper Submission: All papers (abstract, draft, final paper) must be submitted as PDF electronically via the ASME IDETC/CIE Web-pages.
To that end you'll need to create an author login.
Copyright Transfer: After acceptance of your paper you'll also need to
transfer the copyrights to ASME. See the ASME Copyright Information for details.
