The MESA Technical Committee

Mechanical and electrical engineering show an increasing integration of mechanics with electronics and information processing. This integration is between the components (hardware) and the information-driven functions (software), resulting in integrated systems called mechatronic systems, which can find their applications in various industries. The development of mechatronic systems involves finding an optimal balance between the basic mechanical structure, sensor and actuator implementation, automatic digital information processing and overall control for which embedded systems play a key role. The field of embedded systems is becoming more and more challenging, and issues in development of embedded software are attracting attention of an increasing number of researchers both in industry and academia.

The Mechatronic and Embedded Systems and Applications (MESA) Technical Committee of the ASME Design Engineering Division provides a forum for technical discussions and interactions on topics related to emerging technologies in mechatronic and embedded systems that impact critical research and engineering issues. The primary goal of the MESA Technical Committee is to enhance the practice of engineering through dissemination of technological advances and innovations of mechatronic and embedded systems. It aims to bring multi-disciplinary researchers in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, and other fields together to contribute to and influence the future directions of design and applications of mechatronic and embedded systems.
