Support Structure Control System Power System Maintenance Technical Details

Trolley needs to be removed from time to time from the tracks for maintenance or inspection purposes. One major benefit of this remote control mobile platform system is that it eliminates the need for a human worker to be suspended over traffic. With a person over traffic, some or all lanes of traffic would most likely need to be closed costing time and money, not to mention the burden on the driving public. The platform system and the detection device can be remotely moved along the tracks and therefore they can be removed from the tracks and lowered to the ground at the side of the highway. This process of mounting and dismounting the device can be done with a winch mechanism that would hoist a small section of track up to the necessary height and some hardware to ensure that proper alignment is attained. This allows one maintenance person to access the detector unaided while maintaining a relatively safe distance from the highway.

Animation of the lifting process is avalible in high bandwidth (5.85 MB) or low bandwidth (1.81 MB) (Windows Media Video files)

This system is mounted at the end of the truss and located safely off the road.
A mechanical system is used to align the trolley with its tracks.
